Portugal has always produced liqueurs and spririts such as Bagaceira, Ginjinha, Licor Beirão, Amêndoa Amarga and Medronho. More recently producers have turned to vodka and gin. Portuguese gin has become very fashionable and its quality is becoming internationally recognized.
Fortified Wines are liqueur wines of superior quality and produced in Demarcated Regions such as Carcavelos (Carcavelos Wine), Setúbal (Moscatel) or Madeira (Madeira Wine). They are usually served as an aperitif or dessert wine.
