In 1877 D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, who already owns the Douro's largest agricultural heritage, bought 300 hectares of virgin land at the VN de Foz Côa auction. Her dream was to build a model exploration from scratch, realizing in it all the vast experience accumulated throughout her life as a Douro entrepreneur.
This ambitious project was fully carried out between 1887 and 1895. It was the last and most significant achievement of that Lady, but she did not enjoy it, as she died in 1896.
Since then the fifth has always remained in the possession of its descendants. From the 1970s onwards, his great-grandson Francisco Javier de Olazabal took over his management and began a long process of acquiring undivided shares of his family and co-owners, and in 1994 he and his children became sole owner of the Quinta. Until then the grapes of the Quinta were sold to AA Ferreira S. A., founded by the descendants of D. Antónia, and were the basis of some of their finest wines. This connection continued until 1998, when Francisco Javier de Olazabal decided to resign as AA president, Ferreira SA to dedicate himself, together with his winemaker Francisco de Olazabal and Nicolau de Almeida, to the production, aging and marketing of Quinta wines. , through the creation of the society F.
